When Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026, it will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — and nothing else. There is still no announced PC release date. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has now publicly addressed the gap, and his answer is less conspiratorial than fans hoped.
What Zelnick actually said
Speaking to GamesRadar+ and reiterated to Game Rant, Zelnick framed the console-first approach as a deliberate choice by Rockstar, not a contractual obligation:
"Rockstar focuses on the core consumer first, and the core consumer for this title is on console."
In other words: no Sony exclusivity carve-out, no hidden Microsoft deal — just Rockstar's long-running pattern of shipping on console first and PC roughly 12–18 months later, exactly as it did with GTA V (2013 console → 2015 PC) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018 console → 2019 PC).
What we know about the PC version
- Confirmed: A PC version exists internally and is part of Rockstar's long-term plan
- Confirmed: It will not ship alongside the console launch on November 19, 2026
- Not confirmed: Any release window, pricing, system requirements, or store availability (Steam / Epic / Rockstar Launcher)
Historical timing for reference
| Title | Console launch | PC launch | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA IV | April 2008 | December 2008 | ~8 months |
| GTA V | September 2013 | April 2015 | ~18 months |
| RDR2 | October 2018 | November 2019 | ~13 months |
A similar 12–18 month gap would put a hypothetical GTA VI PC launch somewhere between late 2027 and mid-2028.
What this means for PC players right now
1. Don't buy hardware "for GTA VI" yet. Real specs won't be confirmed until Rockstar announces the PC SKU, likely 4–6 months before that version ships. 2. Pre-orders on June 25 are console-only. Any "GTA VI PC pre-order" listing you see this week is a scam or placeholder. 3. Cloud streaming is not confirmed as a stopgap. GeForce NOW would require a PC version to exist first.
